It's evil. I did a similar thing - wanted to check out BrenFu's ZX Spectrum keyboard overlay and beat one of Omargeddon's Gold Cups. It took me a lot longer than I originally set aside.......

And the UFO is almost impossible to hit.

Can’t remember when I last played it on the real beast, but I’m 99% sure the speed is the same. If 16k or 48k doesn’t make any difference either πŸ˜€

I'm wondering if original hardware plays it slower. I'll have to see if there's any footage out there.

Perhaps if it's on a 16k limited machine.

I think it looks fun the way it is though.

DAMN, just tried this one thinking there might be a first spot to be conquered here, BUT NO, not getting anywhere near your score. Well done, very good :-)
I wonder why they released it like that?

And some of those shots are so fast. Impossible to avoid if you are in the wrong position.

Yes, it was shockingly difficulty, I was surprised.

There was a tweet yesterday which highlighted the many Space Invaders clones released after the orignal, though I can't recall whether this version was in the montage.

The top row invaders are especially brutal. They're firing away like they didn't want to make the trip.

Yea that is one tough Invaders. I'm suprised it moves that fast for a default game. βœ…οΈβœ…οΈ good gameplay

Spectral Invaders was released by Bug-Byte in 1982. As you can see it is one of the many Space Invaders clones released at the time. Like most of them, it runs in 16K and does a decent job.

The only thing I don't like with this one is the degree of difficulty - even for an 80's game this game is quite challenging!

The game was written by David Lawson, who was later founder of Imagine and Psygnosis.

This run was made on the 7th August 2022. The emulator is EightyOne. The final score was 1,810 points. This is a game from the UK so the correct frame rate is 50fps.

The ZX Spectrum keyboard overlay is a program called ApVkp, with a ZX Spectrum skin created in 2022 by BrenFu.

Time stamps:
00:30 Main menu. 48K and 50 fps shown at bottom left, though this game will run on the 16K machine.
00:39 1 player selected, game starts.
01:44 UFO shot, I think the only time I manged this.
01:59 First life lost.
03:10 Second life lost.
03:34 First level cleared.
04:44 Third life lost, Game Over. Final score 1,810 points.
