👍 yea I figured the actual arcade couldn't be that way because then ppl could just pay more to get a high score lol.

2 others that do that are on Taito Legends, Battle Shark as well as Contininetal Circus, continuing doesn't reset the score. They're great games but I always thought that was wack. I've wanted to continue at times just for fun and it ends up putting a huge score on my table that I have to ignore.

`Final Fight for Xbox on the Capcom Collection has this issue, as well as Space Harrier on Xbox 360 for Sonic's Genesis Collection`
-> That's crazy and sounds like an emulation error or save-state setup to me, normally those games don't feature that to my knowledge having played both of them, real crazy!

Oh Pit Fighter as well? Gotta check that one out, the Genesis has a lot of Gems worth checking out.

Thanks for the Trivia, there's so much to learn on this Community!

I know there are other games with limited continues that count as continues, but that's because each continue has a set amount of lives.

I do know at least 2 instances where continuing doesn't reset the score.

Final Fight for Xbox on the Capcom Collection has this issue, as well as Space Harrier on Xbox 360 for Sonic's Genesis Collection. I'm not sure if the actual arcade games work that way because it's kind of stupid, whoever puts more coins in can get the higher score. So it may just be an emulation thing within those compilations.. which makes it important to have video proof.

But in those cases the continues are unlimited.

I actually know a game that works just like this Dragon Ball game, it's Pit Fighter for Sega Genesis.. it gives you 3 count down continues, and everyone uses them like lives since you only get 1 life each. It lets you continue and change your character without loosing your score but limits you to 3 so in that case they are more like lives so it's ok. Just like this game.

Thx for your reply!

Ok I'll vote yes. I agree they seem more like lives. That was my thought but wasn't sure.

This has been pointed out on the other runs, the lives are called "continues" in this game, as they also preserve score, which is not a thing normal credit systems would do, that's why the old runner even researched during his run which you can see on the video before continuing on with the run and he ended it sooner since he ran out of time in real life.

To my knowledge and from what I've seen, this is legal and fine just as it is.

BUT - it leaves room for a very daunting but possible "1-Life" category for this game on all 3 difficulties, what's your take on it tho?

Interesting - I am happy to discuss this! At the time of the run I didn't even realise the "continues", because they felt very much like lives.

My only reference other than the rules, is the previously submitted score in this category, submitted by Mantalow. In Mantalow's run also "continues" are used and the runner adresses it in the comments:

"When you lose a life, the game offers you to continue or quit. This is not a continue, if you look closely, you'll see the lives counter on this screen" (source: https://www.lvlupscore.com/score/93265)

Happy for any opinions and thanks already for checking this out!

Good playing, but I'm not sure if I should vote because continues aren't allowed and you are using continues.

But for this game they seem closer to lives, "but they are labled continues" so I'm not sure.

I'll leave blank for now just to see what people say.
