I played Tower Toppler a few years back.
Yes, the fish segment was frustrating at first. I pretty much just stay in the middle.
You have to point press to get a big score and sacrifice a few lives.

Huge score! You made it to the Edge of Doom tower! Excellent.
You got better than me with the towers. I'm only on the 5th "Broken Path" but getting better.
But I excell at the fish shooting though lol.
The key is letting them come to you instead of long range shots. I've gotten them all at times that way which helps build up lives.
This version is close to the one I play on 7800 "Tower Toppler"
The Nintendo version "Castleian" doesn't have the shrimp shooter in between, instead has a bonus platforming section.
