Oh your right. I watched it again. It does look like he went right through it. Lol.. now next time ima try and hit it on purpose.
Edit: I guess Atari wasn't being as cheap as I thought. They just added it for a lil scare.
I'll let you know if the Genesis version is hit-able next time I play.

I think the TAS player just knew its hit box and barely missed the trunk, I imagen if your dead middle of the road you would hit it.
But it scared the crap out of me and I was able to dodge it in time lol

Haha, amazing! And that video answers my other question - "What happens when you hit the tree?" Seems like you rift right through it. But I'd be swerving like crazy if that popped up out of nowhere.

Great question!
It actually is in the arcade too :)
I found it on this TAS run
At 41:36 "start of level 35"
https://youtu.be/AJbiypqv8ww
Guess it goes to show just how close the Mega Drive is to the Arcade.

I wonder if that tree is in the arcade version. There's a playthrough on YT but level 35 is skipped in that run. Looks like it might have been a glitch with how that stage was created, the way it was there near the start of the stage and again when you restarted the stage after losing a life. Cool easter egg to find! ðē

Cool! & thx
This is the only version I've ever played. But I plan on getting it for Xbox "Midway Arcade Treasures"
Gunna be fun ðĪŠ

Faithful arcade conversion - the car animation turning looks just as smooth as the original. Though the lives system was added. In arcade when you run out of fuel its straight to "Insert coin to continue" every time.
Nice score.
