Playing the Amber Moon table in Dream Pinball 3D on PC. The date of play was the 4th December 2022, game mode is Normal with 5 balls (check High Scores at end of video to confirm this). Score achieved was 893,879,990 points.
Dream Pinball 3D is a pinball program released on PC in 2006 by Topware Interactive. As an old game, it can be tricky to set up properly on modern versions of Windows. The Discussion page on Steam can help here, with some good tips on getting past the Register issue and the widescreen issue. The menu screens still don't work well though- see the video for examples! Switch off some effects like bloom - they look awful.
Play wise the physics and game views are a little off-putting. I found myself almost getting dizzy at first, but eventually I settled down to a view I could accept, and my brain coped with the odd movement. The balls can change material and have different physics depending on what they are made from. It's an interesting dynamic but I'm not sure it works. I'm unsure of this one.
Game engine aside, I enjoyed the Amber Moon table and it has a good soundtrack. It made a nice change from Zaccaria and Pinball FX3, but it is nowhere near as good as them. I've seen worse though! The table has a close tie in with the game Two Worlds, also from Topware.
I understand a lot of the negative reviews for this program, but I honestly did not think it was that bad.
Time stamps:
00:30 Check table (game mode is shown at the end of the video).
00:32 Game start.
06:20 Ball 1 lost.
21:25 Ball 2 lost.
23:35 Ball 3 lost.
24:46 Ball 4 lost.
25:30 Ball 5 lost. Game Over. Final score 893,879,990 .
25:43 Entering initials onto High Score table.
26:16 Back at the main menu. Shrinks to this size in menus unfortunately.
26:22 Checking the table, game settings (Normal / 5 balls) and the High Scores for that table and setting. I do a quick flick over to the Hard setting, then back to Normal, to show that the High Score changes depending on the mode.
