Meteorites is a Missile Command style arcade game for the Commodore PET. It was released by Supersoft in 1981 and was written by D.E. Anthony.
Your mission is to protect seven moon bases from an incoming shower of meteorites. You have an aiming reticule that you can use to aim, then shoot when a meteorite is in your sights. If you don't shoot them down, they will hit the ground and if a base is there, then it will be destroyed. You lose points when a meteorite hits the ground anyway, so you are heavily incentivised to shoot everything and not just guard your last few bases.
If you survive a wave, the next is faster, but worth more points. You'll also have one base repaired each round you survive (if you have lost any). Control is via the number-pad, which is a bit difficult, so I recommend you use a joystick which makes the game a lot more fun. Once you complete level 5, it is back to level 0 and the score also resets to 10 points per meteorite. The game ends once all bases are destroyed.
This is a good game by PET standards, definitely one of the better arcade games on the system. The sound and graphics are good - I do like the way the ground shakes when a meteorite hits, a nice little touch. Control with the keyboard took some getting used to and the joystick was so much better.
This run was made on the 13th December 2024 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no adjustable skill levels. The final score was 20,740 points.
