It’s not the greatest conversion indeed. I play on emu too but most of it to achieve some retro achievements.. I don’t see you on retroachievements.org . It’s a very nice site.

Wow, just tried briefly this game with emulator. About 3000 points and maybe worst Ikari Warriors -version, I've played :-)
