General Rules: Play with default settings unless otherwise specified. If the ROM set is not mentioned, play the parent ROM. No use of trainers, cheats, saved game files, emulator save states or other emulator advantages.
No use of code modifications that give the player an advantage over other players. 1 player only. No continues.
In-game/internal autofire is only allowed if a game has it (enabled through hard or soft DIPs). External/MAME/cheat-based autofire is not allowed.
It is discouraged and may lead to voters not accepting your score to
- excessively point farm
- use glitches or other game exploits

You can use any emulator you want (Retropie, rain, neo geo, Coinops, Antstream, handhelds,...). If specific emulators or versions are restricted, it will be mentioned in the Specific rules.

For Top 3 we encourage (but NOT mandatory) to provide:
a) A full video with DIP Switches to be shown in the video (at the start or at the end of your performance). If DIP Switches are not available, Service Menu should be used instead (at the start of your performance). If no difficulty settings is available on your game, you still have to show either DIP switches or service mode showing this (if not mentioned in the specific rules).
OR
b) An INP file. Please state your MAME version in the comments. And add an URL where the voter can download your .inp. (We currently have no way to store those files on the server, but it is on the roadmap).
For INPs:
o We encourage to also show the DIPs during your video play.
o Delete NVRAM before recording/viewing. Many arcade games that MAME emulates save some information (like high scores) in non-volatile ram (NVRAM), which by default MAME saves in the nvram subfolder. For some games (not all) the RNG is affected by NVRAM, so an .inp file recorded with non-empty nvram won't replay correctly on anyone else's system.
o To record INP file, you require Wolfmame: You can download it here : https://github.com/mahlemiut/wolfmame/releases (or on MARP).
o Record one run gameplay when using INP.
Specific Rules: Play the game in 1 player mode with default settings

Sea Wolf is a naval arcade game released by Midway in 1976. The game was created by Dave Nutting Associates, with major input from Dave Nutting himself.

In Sea Wolf, you are a submarine commander with the mission to sink as many boats as possible within the time limit - 70 seconds by default. Looking through your periscope, you aim left and right before firing torpedoes at just the right time and place to intercept the various ships. Once you have fired your current slew of torpedoes, there is a very brief pause while you reload. Floating sea-mines can get in the way of your aim, and these are a significant annoyance in your high score quest. Shooting them yields no points and wastes both a torpedo and time.

Enemy ships are worth the following:

Slow ships - 100 points.
Medium ships - 300 points
Fast PT Boats - 700 points.

The game gives you a time extension (20 seconds by default) if you reach a minimum score (4,000 as default). Both of these are adjustable by the operator. This was a very popular arcade game at the time and the original reportedly sold over 10,000 units. I have fond memories of this game, from playing it as a child in the late 1970s at a holiday camp at Barry Island, Wales. I recall some of the other early videogames there, (Circus and Sheriff spring to mind) as well as several electromechanical games still around such as F-114 (I was so small my Uncle had to move the chair for me!). So yes, this game is a real nostalgia hit.

Old, simple, aged, and yet it can still give a few minutes fun today. In fact, the short games and sense of wanting to get a better score still make this a very playable game today. It has stood the test of time very well - or is that just my nostalgia talking?

This run was made on the 21st June 2026. The game was played using MAME on PC. The settings were left as loaded - 70 seconds play + a further 20 seconds if you reach 4,000 points. The final score was 6,300 points.

Time Stamps:
00:30 Game loading in MAME. Sea Wolf Set 1, DIP switches set to 70 seconds with 20 second extension at 4,000 points.
00:50 Game start - timer reads 70.
00:46 First appearance of an aircraft.
01:40 4,000 points passed.
02:00 Timer reaches 0 - as 4,000 points has been passed, a further 20 seconds of play is awarded.
02:22 Time up! Game Over! Final score 6,300 points.
