Ok, so I played Minefield III again. "Mines: #" refers to the total # of mines in the puzzle, minus how many you've flagged as mines. Since flagging them is unnecessary for completing the puzzle, that number may say anything from 0 to 33 at the finish (of Minefield III), depending on how many mines you flagged.

This number is irrelevant to the score, and a finished puzzle is evidenced by the sentence "please touch the bottom screen to continue" appearing in the top screen.

On the emulator, I didn't know how to place a flag, so I didn't use them and when I had solved the puzzle it still said "Mines: 33".

I honestly have no idea, I was wondering that too. My other Minefield scores show "mines: 0" and "mines: 11"
All of them finished puzzles, and the clock has stopped counting. I wanted to figure it out but now I've found my 50 Classic Games cart is missing. I guess I'll have to find a rom and try to understand that.
