On some C64 games I also use a 2nd joystick (when you require to press space bar to launch bomb).

Unnecessary Info:
I have the Seagull78 adapter attached to controller port 2 in order to use the C button which is easier to reach than B with thy toe. Oddly have gotten very use to the footpedal bomb.. toe pedal..

2600 Stargate actually runs smoother than 5200 Defender.

Granted there's no satisfying pixel explosions, but worth the mention.
