1nvader is a 2023 game written by rax. It is directly inspired by the 2019 game of the same name for the C64 by Darren Foulds.
A very simple game put together in a few days by rax as part of a project to explore a "pseudo pixel" font and graphic style of 3x4 pixels - hence the graphical appearance in the game.
Your base moves constantly left and right and has to shoot endless waves of invaders that attack one at a time. You have only one control - the space bar. This fires your laser and also reverses the direction of your bases travel. Shoot the invader and another one appears.
After a few games, this simple mechanic turned out to be more interesting than I initially thought. As you control both firing and direction of movement with the same key, it's more complex and thoughtful than you realise. For the highest score you have to coordinate your shots with ensuring you don't trigger your base to move into a descending alien missile. This is a lot trickier than it seems! It's like trying to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time.
The graphical style and simplicity on this one gave me nostalgia chills. The blocky black and white graphics feel like the pre-Spectrum days of ZX81's and other computers from the late 70s and early 80s. Similarly I was reminded of PETSCII graphics and memories of the school's Commodore PET were brought to mind.
This game was played using the Oriculator emulator. The date of play was the 17th June 2023. There are no skill levels or options and the final score was 600 points.
Time stamps:

01:02 Only life lost. Game Over.
