Galaforce 2 (Aliens' Revenge) is a Galaga-style shooter for the BBC Micro. It was released by Superior Software in 1988, but not as a stand-alone title. It featured as a new release on Superior Software's "Play It Again Sam 6", a compilation that featured three previously released games for the Beeb - Hunchback by Superior Software, Hopper by Acornsoft and The Sentinel by Firebird. Galaforce 2 itself was written by Kevin Edwards (Crazee Rider on the BBC, and in recent years, the LEGO series of games) and is a follow up to his previous Galaforce. It was eventually re-released on its own on the budget Blue Ribbon label in 1990.
Galaforce is a fast and colourful shooter. It harps back to the shooters of the early eighties, with a strong vibe of Galaga's Challenging Stages. Swarms of aliens fly on-screen, spin about a bit and then clear off. Shoot as many as you can while avoiding being shot or collided with yourself. The game is a development of the original Galaforce as Kevin had not been able to fit in several features he wanted to due to memory constraints. Galaforce was written in MODE 2, which allowed 16 colours, but restricted memory. Galaforce 2 is written to use MODE 5, which allows only 4 colours onscreen, but has the same screen resolution as MODE 2 and frees up a significant amount of memory for the game.
The following list of additions to the game compared to Galaforce is copied from Kevin's GitHub page, where you can read a short story about the games creation and download the source code for yourself.
Pick-Up Capsules ( Good and bad ones )
Two-player mode ( Not at the same time! )
Level / Stage 'Boss' battles
More Active sprites being rendered
More Sprites Graphics
More Levels/Patterns
Narrow / Widescreen display mode support
Level Select / Continue mode
New Music tracks ( By Martin Galway )

This is a superfast shooter to play. You don't really notice the game only has four colours unless you think about it - you'll be too busy blasting and surviving. The speed of the gameplay is everything! The graphics are chunky, so safe space on screen can be limited at times and you will need to be careful where you place your ship on some waves. The music in the game is by Martin Galway. This is definitely a game to try for the shooter fan on the BBC.
