Antix is a simple arcade game for the BBC Micro where you have to guide an ant safely to his home. It was released in 1984 by Krypton Force in the UK. The author is not known, recorded as just 'Andysoft'. The game also refers to Silicon Software on its title screen, so maybe it was intended for release by them originally. There is still a little to unravel on the information surrounding this game.
It's a very basic game - and it is literally written in BASIC. Your ant appears at one of four entrances and has to make its way into the entrance of the anthill in the middle of the screen. There are three anteaters in your way however, and contact with any of them results in you being eaten. If you make it, you get to do it again.
Graphics are simple, colourful but with no animation and the movement is in character blocks. Your ant looks more like a red squirrel to me than an ant and the anteaters lack any real detail. Sound is present, and ok I guess. The game itself is quite difficult and not particularly engaging. This should really have been a type-in program in a magazine such as The Micro User rather than one given a commercial release - especially for 1984. It probably would have been acceptable as a commercial release in 1982, but still would not have shone.
This run was made on the 21st February 2026 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no skill levels and the final score reached was 488 points, following the odd scoring system used.
Time stamps:
00:30 Loading and Instructions screen.
00:45 Game start.
01:02 First ant home.
01:29 First life lost.
01:47 Second ant home.
02:14 Third ant home.
02:34 Fourth ant home.
02:41 Second life lost.
02:56 Third life lost. Game Over! Final score 488 points.
