Super Cobra is a port of the Konami arcade game of the same name. The game was released in 1982, and is one of only four games released for the little-known Entex Adventure Vision console.

Super Cobra is a follow up to Konami's Scramble, this time featuring a helicopter instead of a spacecraft. Otherwise the game is similar to Scramble, with you negotiating a number of varying landscapes and enemy defenses. Whereas Scramble had 6 levels to negotiate, Super Cobra has 10.

The Adventure Vision is an interesting all-in-one console concept, that generates a display by using red LED's and a moving mirror to create the image. This gives a reasonable resolution of 150 x 40 'pixels' at relatively low cost. The downside is that the display is monochrome and red, but for 1982, this was still both acceptable and quite revolutionary. The Nintendo Virtual Boy used a similar concept in 1995.

The four games released for the system ae actually pretty good versions of the games they are based on considering the hardware. Super Cobra does a good job of bringing the arcade game to the console and is very playable despite the monochrome, low-res display. The game is quite hard, featuring some narrow passages quite early on that easily claim your lives. The game has a difficulty setting selectable at the the start, where you can choose to have 3, 4 or 5 lives.

This run was made on the 11th April 2026. 3 Cobras were selected, which makes for the hardest game. The emulator is the Adventure Vision core running on a MiSTer Multisystem 2. The final score was 1,370 points. The onscreen colour is actually red, but my recording device has 'corrected' this to more of an orange colour. The sound also did not record very well.
