Manhole is a port of one of the classic Nintendo Game & Watch handheld game of the same name. The Oric version by Rax was released in September 2025.
Pedestrians are walking the streets and are oblivious of the holes in the ground leading to the sewer (if the game wasn't set in 1981, I would imagine they are using social media on their smart phones). Your man, presumably a sewer worker, has just one manhole to use to protect four manholes. He moves from hole to hole, trying to cover the space just as one of the pedestrians walks over it. If he is quick enough, the pedestrian will continue on his way, oblivious to the fate they have just avoided. If the sewer man fails, a pedestrian will plummet into the sewer, and one of your three lives is lost. Points are scored every time somone successfully walks over a gap without falling in.
This game has four controls, on for each of the four manholes you have to try and block. The handheld game also featured two difficulty variations - Game A and Game B, but the Oric version has only one. Gameplay and key response are good - key response being especially essential in this type of game. Sound is as minimal as the original hardware, which is entirely fitting for the game. The graphics are also a very good facsimile for the ones on the handheld unit. Overall, this is a very good tribute to the original.
This game was played using the Oricutron emulator. The date of play was the 28th June 2026. There are no skill levels or options, and the final score was 154 points.
00:30 Demo running.
00:35 Game Start.
02:11 First life lost.
05:33 Second life lost.
06:24 Third life lost. Game Over! Final score 154.
