One Last Game is another variation on a classic with an added twist. This time the classic is Galaxian, and the twist is that it has been turned through 90 degrees onto its side. The game was written by M. Clemoes and may have been self-published initially before being picked up by Bevan Technology. They also produced Aabatron together for the Beeb.
Basically this is just another Galaxian clone. Placing the game on its side doesn't really change anything. The colour palette choice is also a bit odd, using what looks like 4-colour Mode 5 with yellow, green, red and black. That aside, the scrolling effect of the landscape is ok, but your ship is very long and looks out of place - it actually looks like a spray deodorant can. Sounds are suitable, if not exciting and I quite liked the monochrome version of Space's 'Magic Fly' that appears on the title screen.
Despite the (literal) 90 degree twist, it is just another fixed shooter, better than some and worse than others. It is certainly no Arcadians, but otherwise gives a playable game and a pleasant enough experience for the time.
This run was made on the 21st July 2026 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no selectable skill levels and the final score in this run was 7,230 points.
