Blagger is a 1983 release from Alligata for the BBC Micro. It was written by Ross Goodley, who also wrote Neanderthal Man and Web Runner for the BBC Micro. The original Blagger was written on the Commodore 64 by Antony Crowley.
Blagger is a Manic Miner style platformer with 20 different screens to complete. You play the part of Roger the Dodger, a master burglar, in his quest to collect keys and rob the safe. On each screen you can move left, right and jump. Collect all five of the keys and you can then access the safe, collect your reward, and move to the next screen. There are lots of difficulties in your way. Fall too far, and you die. Touch one of the plant things and you die. Touch one of the moving objects - and you die!
The game demands precise control and timing. It is not easy, and you will probably take many attempts just to clear the first screen. As kids, we had plenty of time in the summer holidays and weekends, but as a busy adult, this can become a little frustrating! Practice makes progress though! This is a classic jumping platformer for fans of that genre.
This run was made on the 30th July 2026 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no skill levels to adjust and the final score reached was 1,150 points.
Time stamps:
00:30 Demo screens.
00:34 Game start. First screen - The Bank.
00:37 First life lost to a poorly timed (and failed) jump.
00:58 Second life lost.
02:27 Safe reached with all keys collected, screen complete.
02:30 Level 2 - Sweet Shop.
02:38 Third life lost.
02:56 Fourth life lost. Game Over! Final score 1,150 points.
