Q-Man's Brother is an arcade game for the BBC Micro. It was released by MRM Software in 1983 and was written by Mike Williams. Mike was one of the 'M' letters in MRM Software. The game was later re-released on the Blue Ribbon label. Mike wrote several games for the Beeb, and two other's, 3D Munchy and Nightmare Maze, used similar forced 3D perspective and similar gameplay.

The game is a blend of aspects of Q*Bert and Pac-man. MRM released a Q*Bert clone called Q-Man (written by Mike Goldberg, the other 'M' of MRM) and a Pac-Man game called 3D Munchy (written by Mike Williams). Q-Man's brother takes the maze mechanic of 3D Munchy and combines it with the square colouring gameplay of Q-Man to deliver a game that is a hybrid of the two.

The game has Q-Man's Brother trying to paint squares in a small maze, similar to Q-Man with his pyramid. There are two opponents, a paint tin that just moves down the screen but is deadly to the touch, and the much worse roller brush. This is also deadly to the touch, but will also paint back any squares it rolls over that you have changed to the original colour. As you are also up against a time limit, this is quite a pain! You only really have your nimble moves to help you, but you do have three smart bombs you can trigger which will kill your enemy - best saved for the rollers. You get an extra smart bomb for each level cleared.

A colourful game with decent and useful game sounds, but no tune. When viewed as a 1983 game, it is quite entertaining, and the 3D effect is quite appealing, but as time passed it was soon eclipsed by games of more depth of gameplay. If you had also already played 3D Munchy and Nightmare Maze, you might feel this game was too similar to be good value for money. That being said, I enjoyed several games before moving on.

This run was made on the 25th October 2026 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no skill levels and the final score was 4,020 points.
