That's why in some games we add 'x k bonus added per collected items. So pure farmers are discouraged and people who play the game as it should (collect stuff) are favoured.

ok, but excessive farming is not allowed in lvlup rules, so your score may be deleted pretty much quickly :)

I tested the farming in an excessive way in level 1 and got almost 35000 points shooting those green flying things coming from the right side (until time ran out). So even a little farming there would give you thousands of points and still time to finish the level. That's why I'd prefer the saving fairies scoring as it would remove any farming incentive.

It's not needed in this game as the timer is pretty short for each level, even farming monsters would lead you to a lower score than someone really good and playing the game accordingly.
Plus farming monsters is very dangerous as they spawn in group of 2/3/4 and even more for these blue worms, especially in the C64 port which is faster than the others, you have to pass the fastest possible these areas, or face death. to score one fairy (1000 pts) you have to farm 10 of the most dangerous enemies, or 40 blue worms (most basic enemies).
