Apple Pie is game in the same vein as the Exidy's 1980 arcade game Targ. It was released in 1984 by Visions for the BBC Micro. The game was written by Tim Chown, who also wrote Micro Power's BBC shooter Nemesis (not the Konami game!).
Apple Pie is a maze shooter. The plot involves your village coming under attack by aliens, whose sole intent is to steal the stars from the village's United States flag. Your flag sits at the bottom of the village and the aliens will zip around, attacking you or going for the flag itself. You control a tank that can manoeuvre around the village and it is your mission to destroy all the aliens and protect the flag. If you shoot all the robots carrying letters in the order B O N U S, then you get a.......bonus!
You tank will be destroyed if you collide with an alien, are shot, if the aliens steal all the stars from the flag or if you run over your own flag.
The game has smooth and easily handleable controls. The graphics are colourful and smooth moving and overall this is a very pleasant game, that I had never tried before. This is what I enjoy about this hobby, finding little gems from the past - and also stinkers! Fortunately Apple Pie is most definitely a gem.
This run was made on the 21st February 2026 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no skill levels and the final score reached was 1,730 points.
