Carn-3 is a Centipede-style game for the Oric-1 48K. It was released by Loriciels in 1983 and written by Gil Espeche (who later went on to write Crazy Cars for the ZX Spectrum and Fire & Forget II on the Sega Master System).

Hmm. Not your normal Centipede, this one. You are a hunter of caterpillars (I don't understand why) and must shoot the creature above you. I don't quite understand the game rules, but generally you should be aiming for the head. Body segments, when shot, sometimes don't seem to do anything and at other times turn into apples. The apples are the equivalent of the Mushrooms in Centipede. You can only move left and right, which makes survival very difficult when heads or segments reach the bottom of the screen. Shoot the head and the creature dies. Survive long enough and more apples are generated - I think something bad happens if you destroy them all and the head is more inclined to make a beeline for you.

This was an early Oric release, and it shows. It reminds me very much of a type-in listing from a magazine, rather than a commercial release, and is almost certainly written in BASIC judging by the slow speed and character block movement. Another odd little curiosity from the Oric library.

This run was made on the 21st July 2026. The game was played on an Oric-1 48K using the Oricutron emulator. You can't play it on an Atmos and I don't think Loriciels ever updated it for the Atmos. There are no skill levels and the final score was 115 points.

Time Stamps:

00:37 Game start.
01:19 First life lost.
03:08 Second life lost.
03:33 Third life lost. Game Over! Final score 115 points.
