Yep! Very similar experience when I got my hands on a copy of Donkey Kong for the 2600.
We knew it wouldn't be exactly like the arcade, but it WAS DONKEY KONG!

I remember playing this at my friends house for hours. It didn't matter to us at all that it was not as good as the arcade game. It was Pac-man - at home and we enjoyed it. We expected games at the time to not be be as good as the arcade, so this didn't seem to be a problem.

Yep, I do have a pattern in this run, but I did improve the strategy.
Hopefully one day I have time to crack 100k on the EMU track
